Peeking into miniatures.
Stamp collector and curator Thomas Matthieson has put together an incredible exhibition of stamps from around the world, reaching back to the 19th century. It’s clear that the diminutive size of the stamps was no barrier to the artists who created the compelling images on them.
The large poster print shows a “Penny Black”- the first adhesive postage stamp. It pictures Queen Victoria at age 19.
More poster prints! They are $45 apiece and printed on beautiful paper. These depict stamps from Tom’s collection that have been canceled in visually fun ways.
A complete sheet of 12 Tibetan stamps from 1933. These were printed with wood blocks on native-made paper.
A monocle, mustache and pursed mouth resulting from some fortuitous cancellations!
